Start from the Welcome window
Create a project, open a safe sample copy or return to recent work before entering the IDE.
Choose the work before opening the workspace#
At launch, McBasic™ presents a separate Welcome window. Creating or opening a project brings up the editor workspace and closes Welcome. Return with Window → Welcome to McBasic™ or Shift–Command–1. The screenshot on this website’s front page is a genuine capture of the older build 816; it does not depict this newer launch window.
Choose the right starting action#
| Action | Use it for | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| New Project… | Choose a project or plugin template | The standard New Project chooser opens. |
| Create with AI… | Start an assisted application from a blank project | A new project is created and its AI chat opens; this does not edit the existing project in place. |
| Open a Project… | Continue an existing project | Select its .mcbproj package or supported legacy manifest. |
| Open a Sample… | Practice without altering the bundled sample | Choose a destination; McBasic™ creates and opens your own copy. |
If the current project has unsaved changes, resolve the save prompt before replacing it. An open/create failure leaves Welcome available and reports the reason.
Find and manage recent projects#
The recent list holds up to ten projects. Double-click a row or select it and press Return. A missing or disconnected path is marked Not found; reconnect the volume or use Open a Project to locate the package.
The row’s context menu offers Show in Finder and Remove from Recent Projects. Removal hides that entry from Welcome; it does not delete the project or clear File → Open Recent. Opening the project again returns it to the list.
A compact window when there is no history#
The current source uses a narrow, centred layout when there are no recent projects and adds the recent-project column when there is history to display. Start and Learn remain available in both arrangements. The size changes automatically; it is not a manually resizable project window.
Set your preferred launch behavior#
Show this window when McBasic™ launches is enabled by default and is a setting of this Mac. Disable it to reopen the most recent project instead. If that project cannot be found, Welcome appears. Closing a project returns to Welcome after any required save decision; Command–Q quits the application.
Find documentation and acknowledgements#
User Manual and Tutorials open the website when selected. What’s New in 0.5 opens the app’s release notes. Acknowledgements opens Licenses & Acknowledgements, with third-party licenses and notices; the McBasic™ menu also provides that command.
- Choose Open a Sample and select a disposable destination.
- Confirm the project opens in the Designer, with the Project and Properties panels.
- Close the project, resolving any save prompt.
- Reopen it from Recent Projects and confirm the same files return.
